Tonight! Inspired Unreality Open Game Chat. Last week we enjoyed chatting with Peaktime. Tonight is bring your own topic. All gaming is on topic. Next week is the first Monday of November which means we have a topic. Fantasy and Science Fiction.

Last week we worked on a table for chat topics about RPGs. Don't have a topic. Roll one up.

D20 table for chat topics about RPGs
soon to be a D100

What is railroading and why is it bad?
What makes OSR better? What makes OSR worse?
Free Kriegspiel
Hex crawls
Random Encounters
Combat free roll playing
Systems of handing out XP to players
Group XP vs Individual XP
How online play has changed RPGs
Fudging rolls?
The Quantum Ogre

Ok, that's just 13 so far and they could use some refinement. But we're still brainstorming. Come brainstorm with us. Or bring your own topic. Or suggest favorite RPG chat topics for our dice rolling table.

It will be fun.

Inspired Unreality open game chat is held in the gamerplus chat rooms at Tenkar's Tavern on Discord. More info and an invite here.

All our best to Alan and his family who have been having health issues. I chatted with him yesterday and he is planning on joining us tonight.

Are you on twitch? Follow these channels. If you have a twitch channel let me know and I will add you to the list of Gamer+ gamers on twitch.

On Halloween Megan is doing a 12 hour stream on her twitch channel. No spoilers but she has been working on some visual effects and I am sure she will play many spooky games.

Join her stream and follow her channel. Congratulate her for reaching affiliate status.

NEA Game Fest ended yesterday. Kier said that attendance was better than expected with many out of town guests from as far away as Chicago and attendance totals competing with their last in person Game Fest which was pre covid. The NEA Gamers Guild is on a roll. I'm looking forward to more gaming in the future.

On October 15, Charlie Clay posted "Lots of fun playing TANK ACE tonight at NEA Game Fest.  Battle kicks off again tomorrow at 10 a.m."

I added his pictures to a photo album.
About The NEA Gamers Guild

The Northeast Arkansas Gamers Guild is a group dedicated to the promotion of RPGs, board games, miniature games and all games played on the tabletop!

Our goal is to provide places to play and schedule events throughout each month as well as to provide a place for other gamers, organizations and businesses to advertise their gaming events.

Vivian and I put on Blue Fest for 25 years. All of our kids helped with that. It's great seeing my kids continue in our festival promoting way. It's always all about the people.

And tonight! Inspired Unreality open game chat.

Last week I enjoyed chatting games with Alan, Peaktime, and sound. It was a wide ranging discussion that started with the role of the DM. My opinion. The DM shouldn't drive the narrative but he should be alert for narrative hooks in the play and stand ready to enhance the story.

Join us tonight. Inspired Unreality open game chat is held in the gamerplus chat rooms at Tankar's Tavern on Discord. Everyone is welcome. Bring your own topic. All gaming is on topic. More info here.

Are you interested in running a one off for us? Let me know.

My mommy said it's good to share. Please forward this email to your gaming friends and share this link to Gamer+ News to help spread the word.

Tonight on Inspired Unreality Open Game chat we have open game chat. Bring your own topic. All gaming is on topic.

Last week Alan, Vivian, and myself discussed Fantasy and Science Fiction and, amazingly enough, we stayed pretty much on topic.

Inspired Unreality is held every Monday night at 9:00 Central in the gamerplus chat rooms at Tenkar's Tavern on Discord. Everyone is invited.

Next weekend is NEA Game Fest.

"NEA Game Fest is a charity omni con in Jonesboro, AR, with all proceeds benefiting The Children's Shelter of Walnut Ridge. We have events, prizes, and giveaways for board games, card games, miniatures, RPGs, and more!"

"Attendees (3+) must wear mask. In addition, attendees (16+) must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination"

Stay safe.

You have until Thursday to get your badge online. I believe their are savings involved with the pre purchase.

Badges will also be available at the door.

They have six pages of events.

Play and Win. Tournaments!

I can't go because we're locked down until the delta variant wanes. So I bought a T Shirt. You can also just donate if you want to help and can't attend.

There's an NEA Game Fest Facebook.

And an NEA Gamers Guild Facebook.

There are many Gamer+ Gamers who are involved in NEA Game Fest. Three cheers for all the volunteers who work to make this happen.

Tonight! At Inspired Unreality! We have a topic! Fantasy and Science Fiction!

I read a lot and I also enjoy some fantasy and science fiction movies and tv shows. I have played in a couple of SF RPGs but, of course, fantasy RPGs are my main thing. There's also a lot of Fantasy and SF in other media, games, graphic novels, blogs, vlogs, etc.

Here's the place where I plug Megan's and Kim's Buffy podcast, Flunking The Written.

Yes this is a broad topic. Everyone is welcome. Bring your own topic. All Fantasy and SF is on topic.

For example, FKR - Free Kriegsspiel Revolution, would definitely be on topic. Here's a Follow Me And Die post about FKR, a rules light OSR RPG.

Like I said, I read a lot. Here's my current and some recents I can recommend. With links! Woohoo!

I am currently reading The Inheritance Trilogy. I'm on book 3. This is an earlier fantasy story by N. K. Jemisin who won three Hugos in three consecutive years each for a book in the Broken Earth Trilogy. I read that too. I like the Inheritance Trilogy better without thinking it's actually better. Just more to my taste.

She posted The Inheritance Trilogy Non-Wiki which includes her notes made while writing the books. She has licensed these notes CC BY-SA-NC so yes, you can repost these notes or work from them under some restrictions. More at this link.

I love Russian Folklore so "Deathless" by Catherynne M. Valente was just like it was written for me. I mean, Baba Yaga is in it and everything.

"Deathless is an alternate history novel ... combining the Russian fairy tale The Death of Koschei the Deathless with the events and aftermath of the Russian Revolution."

Nancy Springer writes YA Fantasy but in her Enola Holmes mysteries she writes an alternative history of a fictional world. Enola Holmes is Sherlock Holmes' younger sister, somehow never mentioned by Arthur Conan Doyle. Each book is a novella, a quick read, and absolutely delightful.

"For centuries mystical creatures of all description were gathered into a hidden refuge called Fablehaven to prevent their extinction. The sanctuary survives today as one of the last strongholds of true magic. Enchanting? Absolutely. Exciting? You bet. Safe? Well, actually, quite the opposite."

Yes, I do love reading YA Fantasy. And I do recommend "Fablehaven".

I just finished "The Chosen and the Beautiful" by Nghi Vo, a retelling of "The Great Gatsby" in a world with magic, demons, demoniac, and paper coming to life. This is an exquisite work. One of the best crafted novels I have ever read (and I read a lot). It's also very entertaining.

Megan said she knows she loves a book when she wants to reread it as soon as she finishes it. As soon as I finished this book I wanted to reread "The Great Gatsby" and then reread "The Chosen and the Beautiful".

So in case you didn't catch onto the circle I'll explain it. I plugged Megan's Buffy podcast at the top. At the bottom I refer to Megan again and then provide a link to Books, Bones, and Buffy. Pretty clever, huh?

Join us tonight to discuss these stories or others.
